Title: Save custom outlines
Post by photon on Aug 4th, 2007 at 4:59am
Hi, I have created a number of custom outlines of components, but can't see how to save them to reuse in another schematic. Probably easy but not to me ;)

Hello Dale

I think the situation is this : you have your outlines saved in a VeeCAD project .PER file and you want to use these outlines in other projects.  If I have misread the situation, please let me know.

Step 1: copy that .PER file to a new name, like "DalesLibrary.per".  You now have a library file containing  the outlines you want to use.

Step 2 : with your schematic editor, draw the schematic for your next project and export the netlist.

Step 3 : in VeeCAD, go File -> New to start your new layout.

Step 4: in VeeCAD, go Netlist -> Import.  Click the Add button and select the "DalesLibrary.per" file.  Tick the checkbox beside "DalesLibrary.per" in the library lists.  Click the "..." button and select your import netlist file.  Click Import.

Step 5: VeeCAD will show the new components on screen.  You will notice that where possible, outlines have been copied from "DalesLibrary.per".  Where the library does not contain a required outline, you get the default outline shape.

Step 6: If the library is missing outlines you require, you have 2 options.  1) Open DalesLibrary.per in VeeCAD, add the extra outlines then re-import the netlist into your project.  2) In VeeCAD go Board -> Outlines and set the shape right there in the new project.

Notes:

A. re-importing the netlist doesn't destroy your layout, so you can edit the library file and reimport
multiple times.

B. Have a look at Tutorials -> Netlist Import with Libraries in the help file.

C. Have a look at Practical -> Libraries in the help file.

Do post further or email me as needed.
