Veecad development suggestion - hot keys
Feb 19th, 2007 at 4:45pm

Another feature that would speed up layouts with veecad would be the ability to change edit mode by a single keystroke, something like

l - add links
b - break tracks
r - rotate 90deg clockwise
d - delete component
space - back to select mode

This would remove lots of slow mouse movements.

Cheers,

Mat

hi Mat!

We already have some keys which I need to keep because they are Windows standards:

- Escape key to return to Select mode.
- Hold Alt key then click and drag to resize.
- Delete key to delete selected items.
- Ctrl-click item to toggle selection.

In addition we have spacebar during drag to rotate a part.

We could have F2, F3, F4 or B, L, W for Break, Link & Wire Modes.  Or I could make the keys configurable.  Also, I could make right-click on the empty board return to Select mode.

For now, here's a way to save mouse clicks - build a stockpile of breaks and links in empty space at the board bottom.  Just drag out the part you need.  Also drag uneeded parts back to storage area.

I guess configurable keys would be the best way, with some sensible default settings.
