I wish for colored wires
Oct 26th, 2011 at 6:32pm

Hi,

just bought a license for VeeCAD after using the free version of this great tool for some time. Nice Smiley

I like my finished boards to be easily debugged, so to save myself time I always use three different colors for the wires I solder on:
Black for all wires carrying GND,
Red for all wires carrying Power,
  Green for all other wires.

This makes for good-looking and logical boards.

I wish to have the same opportunity when I design the board, so  my wish for the next version of VeeCAD is individual colors on wires.
Maybe selected by right-clicking on the wire?

Hope this makes it into the next version.

Anyway, congratulations on a great tool!

Stripman

Welocome to the forum, Stripman!

Just remember that Red is reserved for errors, and for selected items. Still, if the wire colors are configurable, you can use red if you really want to.

Some users have asked for colored nets, and that is similar to your request. Probably the two ideas can be combined.

At the moment, VeeCAD is getting full net tracing of custom track patterns, and that is important. After that is released, I will have to decide what comes next.

Please do post any further requests - most of what you see in VeeCAD is a direct answer to user requests.

Hi there, how is the progress on this coming? I'd find this very useful for quickly eyeing ground connections that make routing a star ground quite easy on analog boards.

I am writing a track editor at present, and it won't be complete at least well into next year. I plan to make net coloring my next job after the track editor.

Hi Stripman!

I'm doing the design work for it now. I'm going for 4 colours, user selectable, can be assigned to any nets of your choice. Quite a lot of work and some experimentation needed. A release is 6 months away at least.

Hello Stripman

We have had a coloured nets feature since October 2015. That means strips and links are shown coloured according to which net they are in. You can colour up to 6 nets - for example power and ground can have special colours.

On the VeeCAD menu, go "Netlist -> Colours" and assign colours to nets.

The coloured strips and links don't show on the printout at the moment - you can Print Screen or go "Tools -> Graphic Copy" on the VeeCAD menu, then paste into Paint etc. Or just work in front of the computer screen.
