No cell indexing on main edit screen
Feb 2nd, 2021 at 2:52pm

Could cell row and column numbers be added to the main edit screen?  I can't understand why these are present on the printout of the board, but not available on the screen for placing components.

Reason for request:  I'm using stripboard to connect and support LEDs to be fixed under the control panel for my model railway.  I have a fixed size schematic for the layout, and will 3D print tiles to support this schematic AND locate the LEDs.  So I need to place LEDs on the stripboard in exactly the right physical location (e.g. anode to strip 5, column 7; cathode to .....) to correspond to the printed tile.  Not having to count holes to locate these cells on the main edit screen would help enormously   Roll Eyes    Keith

Welcome to the forum, Keith!

If you look at the bottom left of the VeeCAD window, you should spot a display of x,y coordinates that changes as you move the mouse. These numbers match those on the printout. You can also stick "rulers" on the edges of your board so you don't have to count holes. This post has pictures of coord display and rulers: https://veecad.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1379257839/15.

The help file topic "Layout Hints -> Board Construction" covers this too.

Hi Roger

Many thanks.  Goodness! I hadn't spotted the co-ordinates on the main editor board.  That helps A LOT!  Could they be, er, slightly larger font size to help us old folk?   Wink

No, by counting holes, I didn't mean on the physical board, but on the VeeCAD main edit screen for what I thought were lack of these co-ordinates there!  For working with the physical boards, I 3D printed a plastic ruler, with the 2.54mm-spaced numbered graduations that allow me to read off the co-ordinates of a hole immediately - do not like the 'stick-on' paper ruler approach.

(Small world!  My son lives in Blairgowrie, VIC.  Could nearly wave at you across the water   Kiss  )     Cheers     Keith

In the next VeeCAD release I will provide larger, bold text in the status bar.

Oops, I moved to Clifton Springs 3 years ago. Ocean Grove has a reliable sea breeze after a hot day, whereas we swelter here. Plenty of breeze at Blairgowrie, I would guess!
