Request: Resizable custom outlines
Sep 24th, 2022 at 11:02am

As a hobbyist, I've been using a very old version of VeeCad for many years now. I find it really easy to create components and lay them out on a veroboard pattern.

However, one thing always troubles me. Sometimes I need to create custom outlines. But, unlike Leaded and Radial types, I cannot move the pins around on components that use these outlines. I have to create separate outlines for different pin layouts.

It would be really nice if I could just drag the pins of components when I lay them out onto the board. I don't think this is currently possible. Is it something that could be added?

An example might be a TO-92 transistor. Sometimes I might want the pins to be in a triangle layout; sometimes in a straight line. I have to create two custom layouts to achieve this, but it would be nice if I could just drag the middle pin of the component.

Hello Pete, and thanks for posting!

I love the moveable pin idea. Already you can hold down SHIFT and drag the pin of a Leaded or Radial part, and that could be extended to all other outlines. At the moment, all you can do is to edit the outline and that is messy if multiple parts use that same outline.

With my age it would require a big push to produce this feature, so to be truthful, I don't think it will get done.

That's a shame. but not the end of the world, I guess. It's fairly easy to copy the existing outline and edit it (or just edit the JSON, as I sometimes do to create more precise outlines).

Congratulations on producing a great product!
