Problem loading Kicad library files
Jun 25th, 2023 at 10:17am

Hello,

I'm a new user of VeeCAD version 2.45 release 0 build 0

I am having a problem loading the Kicad library files provided in VeeCAD.

The error occurs when trying to load the tutorial netlist file  Import.net,
(I know it does not need any added libraries, but it demonstrates the problem.)

When importing the netlist, I add the Kicad library files, and select them all.
When I click on Import button, the following message appears:

Error loading library.  No file version information found.
     File:   C:\Program Files(x86)\VeeCAD\Library\Kicad\V_adc_dac.lib

Above error occurs with the Kicad and TinyCAD libraries,
but NO error with the DesignSpark and XLDesigner libraries.

Kicad library files have extension           .lib
TinyCAD library files have extension      .TCLib
DesignSpark library files have extension  .per
XLDesigner library files have extension   .per

It seems that library files of type .per are OK, but others are not.

Also, the netlist format I select does not seem to make any difference.

Can you advise what I should do about the apparently missing file version information ?

Thanks,   Ken.

Welcome to the forum, Ken

VeeCAD is refusing to read libraries that should instead be loaded into the Kicad schematic editor.

The DesignSpark and XLDesigner libraries are for VeeCAD - and the help file instructions are quite different.

Please expect an email from me with a screenshot from the current Kicad release. The existing help file screenshot may confuse and I have to release a new help file.

Hi,
I have the same problem, or had, I have just downloaded Veecad and reading the 'getting started' instructions I discovered under Kicad & Veecad that I need to load the libraries supplied by you to the Kicad library directory.
This I have done.
I loaded them into the Kicad library directory and then in the Kicad Eeschema (the schematic page) I went to tools\symbol library editor which opens the editor, went to file\add library, found your files, now in Kicad\library and clicked on the next one to add (I could only add them one at a time?) and open. Chose to open them to the global table and OK.
They show up at the bottom of the list when calling for 'place symbol'
They can now be used in the schematic and will convert into a net list that the Veecad recognises.
The problem now is that even using the orcadpcb2 format they appear on the veecad page without wires?
Can you see what I am missing?
I can't add a .net file?

Hi Bob

Your file "test_for_veecad2.zip" contains a perfectly  valid netlist that I was able to load into VeeCAD. So you don't have a Kicad problem. I suggest looking at the VeeCAD help file at the topic "Tutorials -> Netlist Import with Libraries" to see what to expect in VeeCAD.
